For the past 11 years, Roraima Bikers has teamed up with the National Milling Company (NAMILCO) to stage a CARICOM cycling event.
This year will be no different.
The Brian Allen-led club, along with the McDoom-based company, will host a 12-race criterium event on CARICOM Day (Monday) at the Seawall Bandstand.
Dubbed the ‘Wheat Up Cycling Classic’ Monday’s fixture is scheduled for a 9am start.
Seniors, juniors, females as well as riders as young as six (BMX six to nine, two- lap event) and older than 50 years (veterans over 50, five-lap event) will compete for top honours on Monday.
The top six in the feature event and the first three finishers in the other 11 races will cart off cash and trophies. Some of last year’s winners included Marlon Williams (senior), Michael Anthony (junior), Ralph Williams (veteran under 50), Toshwanna Doris (female) and Ozia MCauley (Mountain Bikes).
Newly crowned national road race champion, Hamza Eastman, Alanzo Greaves, Paul DeNobrega, Michael Anthony, Orville Hinds and Warren McKay are some big names scheduled to saddle up for the event in six days.
