A seaman was sentenced to four years in prison yesterday after being found guilty of trying to smuggle cocaine out of the country.
The trial concluded yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, before Magistrate Fabayo Azore.
Macey was charged after 12.256 kilogrammes of cocaine were found in his suitcase after he was stopped and searched by a Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) officer at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri.
Macey had pleaded not guilty and was subsequently remanded to prison.
