Ramdyhan, Gentle to clash in women’s singles final

Number-one seed Nicola Ramdyhan and Afruica Gentle will clash in the final of the 2015 ladies singles of the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) sponsored tournament after securing contrasting wins in the semifinal yesterday at the bank’s Bel Air court.

Defending champion Ramdyhan wasted no time in defeating the talented Kalyca Fraser 6/0, 6/2.

Meanwhile on court 2, the other semifinal between Gentle and Carol Humphrey saw the two players going toe-to-toe in a match that lasted over two hours.

Gentle battled nerves and recovered after being down 0-3 to take the first set 6/4 but Humphrey’s experience showed in the second set which she won 6/4. Gentle lost the first game of the final set but rebounded to win the next six games and the set 6-1.

On Monday Godfrey Lowden received a walkover from Russian Vladimir Permyakov to advance to the final of the men’s over 35 Open event where he will play Chethan Narayan who outplayed veteran Rudy Grant, 6-3, and 7-5. On Sunday, Andre Erskine reached the men’s Open semis after defeating Narayan 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Erskine will next face the winner between Daniel Lopes (seeded number three) and Keimo Benjamin encounter.

In a quarter final match Benjettan Osborne defeated Grant 6-1, 6-3.

The other quarter finals winners were Seanden David-Longe and Anthony Downes. David-Longe defeated Harry Panday 6-2, 6-3 while Downes inflicted a double bagel (6-0, 6-0) on Kester Abrams.

Nicolas Glasgow and Nicola Ramdyhan played Berbicians, Carol Humphrey and Godfrey Lowden in the Quarter Finals of the Mixed Doubles.

Veteran Berbicians Godfrey Lowden and Carol Humphrey played with a touch of class to defeat Nicholas Glasgow and Nicola Ramdyhan 6-2, 6-4 while

Daniel Lopes and Aretta Dey were forced to pull out all the stops before getting past Grace McCalman and Leyland Leacock 7-5, retired.
