Two friends found themselves in court yesterday after it was alleged that they punched an associate and stole his $3.2M car.
Jeetendra Seeram, 36, a bus conductor, of Lot 4 Lusignan, East Coast Demerara and Ravindra Mohamed, 37, of Lot 511 Good Hope, East Coast Demerara, were both accused of stealing Edward Etwaroo’s car at the Better Hope Public Road. Both men pleaded not guilty at their arraignment at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.
According to Prosecutor Sherlock King, both accused are known to the victim. King said the men were at Pegasus when they asked Etwaroo for a drop to Better Hope, for which they agreed to pay him $2,000.
The prosecutor said Etwaroo agreed but when he was instructed to stop at the defendants’ destination, they began to argue in a different language and eventually ended up in a scuffle.
After the men stopped fighting with each other, Samaroo punched Etwaroo in his face and pushed him out of the car and drove away, King added.
But King said the men did not get far because they were caught by public-spirited citizens, who took them to a nearby police station.
Magistrate Zamilla Ally subsequently set bail at $100,000 for Seeram, while Samaroo was remanded to prison until July 13th.
