Ralvin McLean, the Jamaican national who was charged last month with the attempted murder of ex-policeman Ravi Outar, has had the charged against him withdrawn.
The charge was withdrawn when McLean reappeared before Magistrate Marissa Mittelholzer on Monday.
‘B’ Division Comman-der Christopher Griffith told Stabroek News that the case file was sent to the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice and police were subsequently told to withdraw the charge.
“I don’t know the rationale behind be advice… but he was freed,” Griffith said.
However, sources told Stabroek News that the matter was withdrawn due to lack of evidence linking McLean to the crime.
Stabroek News understands that police were unable to conduct a thorough investigation since Outar was not speaking while he had been hospitalised.
Outar, of 143 Second Street, Rose Hall Town, was reportedly shot five times about his body after a gunman opened fire on him as he sat outside his home.
Outar died at the Georgetown Public Hospital on June 19th. He had been hospitalized for almost a week.
His wife had reportedly told investigators that after the shooting she saw a man walk out of the street and jump into a waiting car.
