Delroy Park, who is known to the police and the court was on Wednesday slapped with a charge of robbery under arms when he appeared at the Whim Magistrate’s Court.
Park, 30, of Cromarty Farm, Corentyne, Berbice appeared before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh and was not required to plead when the charge was read to him.
It is alleged that Park, while armed with a gun and in the company of others on May 18, 2015, robbed Nalline Budram of $13,000, a pair of gold earrings and a cellular phone worth $25,000.
Park, when given an opportunity to speak, told the magistrate that he was surprised at the charge since he has been reporting to court and the police station at Whim every Friday, including before and after May 18, in relation to other matters he has pending and no one told him of the allegation.
Police Prosecutor Godfrey Playter objected to bail, citing the gravity, nature and prevalence of the offence. The objection was overruled by Magistrate Singh and Park was placed on $40,000 bail.
He is expected to return to court on August 6, in relation to this case.
