Leon Lindo, the police officer implicated in a conspiracy to murder businessman Mohamed Khan, yesterday made an appearance in court but the police files were not ready for the proceedings to begin.
When the matter was called, Prosecutor Neville Jeffers asked presiding Magistrate Ann McLennan for an adjournment to facilitate the completion of all the files.
The prosecutor’s request was granted and the next court hearing will be on July 21st.
Lindo, who was attached to the Tactical Services Unit (TSU), was implicated in Khan’s death after he was pinpointed by confessed hitman Lennox Wayne as one of the persons who was responsible for the murder of the businessman.
Lindo was refused bail during his arraignment in May, but he was subsequently released after he secured bail from the High Court.
It is alleged that between July 8th and July 10th, 2014, at Eve Leary, Lindo allegedly conspired with Wayne to murder Khan.
Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru had said at the arraignment that investigators learned from Wayne, called ‘Two Colours,’ that there was a plot involving the policeman to murder Khan. Between July 8 and July 10, 2014, the businessman was shot and on August 21, he went missing, Mangru further said, while adding that on September 21, a headless body was discovered. Samples were then taken from the body and were sent for analysis. The results confirmed that the remains were those of Khan.
Lindo’s lawyer has said he is innocent of the charge and wants to be vindicated in court.
