After centering its attention on international tournaments for the first half of the year the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) will now shift its focus to local competitions.
According to Technical Director of the association, Terrence Poole, plans are afoot to stage the National Novices Championships and the first of two Under-16 tournaments.
Poole told this publication yesterday that the two-day National Novices Championships is scheduled to box off on July 24 while the first of two Under-16 championships will be staged in the first week of August.
While Poole was certain about the venue for the Novices (California Square) he mentioned that the Under-16 event will be held “somewhere out of Georgetown, most likely in Region Three.”
Poole added that he envisions a good turnout since “a lot of persons have been waiting for local competitions.
“We have persons who have been training and just waiting for the opportunity to show their skills so these competitions should be very interesting,” was how heput it.
The GBA’s TD also stated that support is need and the association is currently looking to garner sponsorship for the two events.
