Sanasie assisting police with probe into wife’s murder

Auto dealer Deokarran ‘Ram’ Sanasie, the husband of slain businesswoman Patricia Sanasie is in custody assisting with the investigation into his wife’s murder.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum told Stabroek News yesterday that Deokarran Sanasie, the company of a lawyer, turned himself in to police. Up to press time last night he was still in police custody.

Blanhum said that subsequent to the murder, police had made attempts to contact Deokarran Sanasie at a few locations but were unsuccessful. He said that it was a result of this that he went to the police.

At the time of the killing the businessman was overseas but there were allegations that he had ordered a hit on his wife.

On January 12, Patricia Sanasie, 45, was fumbling to open the gate to her Lot 129 Atlantic Gardens, East Coast Demerara home so that her daughter could drive in when a bulky man dressed in black and wearing a mask walked up. Based on eyewitness accounts, within a matter of seconds the man had fired five shots at the woman at point-blank range.

He then jumped into a waiting car which sped off leaving the lifeless Sanasie sprawled on the ground in a pool of blood with wounds to her pubic area, neck, head and right arm.

It had been claimed that Patricia had been threatened by her husband and had become fearful of her life. This newspaper understands that there is a recording in existence with a voice purported to be that of Deokarran Sanasie threatening to kill the woman.

The couple had a turbulent relationship which led to them separating.

Last year Deokarran Sanasie was shot several times about his body while drinking in the vicinity of his auto sales business at Fourth and Light streets, Alberttown. He survived the shooting and subsequently went into hiding. He had pointed fingers at his wife.

His wife and her brother were subsequently held in connection with the shooting. However, Patricia Sanasie had denied any involvement in the attempted hit on her husband.

Richard Stanton, 39, of Lot 53 Princes Street, Lodge has since been charged with the woman’s murder. He made his first court appearance.
