Noel Culpepper repeated as the individual male triathlon champion Saturday when the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) and its affiliates staged the sprint triathlon competition as one of the Olympic Day 2015 activities.
Last year’s winner did the double in fine style.
He swam the distance of 750m, rode for 20km and ran for 5km to complete the course. Danny Persaud took the second place while Silas Brummell came in third.
The event started off with swimming at the National Aquatic Centre, Liliendaal. The biking stage was to be three times around the National Park, however, that was changed to riding twice around the zone on the Embankment Road in front of the National Aquatic Centre. The running leg was once around the same zone.
Thirteen-year old Amy Grant took the individual female winner’s spot by digging deep into her energy reserves to complete the course with a sprint to the finish. Grant was the youngest female in the competition.
It was also the first time she entered the individual category.
