Ballistics tests on a gun and matching ammunition found in the possession of the suspected Nandy Park shooter, have confirmed that it was stolen during a house breakage several weeks ago, Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum said yesterday.
Blanhum told Stabroek News that the weapon and other items were stolen from a house located at Eccles, East Bank Demerara. The weapon is a licensed firearm.
Meanwhile, police have been granted an extension to keep the suspect who was arrested on Sunday in custody. His time in custody without charge as stipulated in the law would have ended around 6 pm yesterday.
This newspaper was told that in addition to being positively identified in the murder of Agricola resident Gladstone George, the man is also a suspect in the execution-style killing of Travis Rudder at Nandy Park; a shooting which also left his infant child and fiancé badly wounded as well as several other murders and armed robberies. Most of the offences were committed in villages along the East Bank Demerara corridor.
Up to late yesterday he was still being placed on identification parades with respect to some of these matters.
The murder suspect was arrested by on-duty police ranks on Sunday night after they spotted him attempting to board a Grove/Diamond minibus in the Stabroek Market area. He was searched and the loaded weapon found in his possession.
