Mark Xavier, Faizal Khan and Frank `English’ Parris have been relieved of their Golden Jaguars management duties last week according to a source within the GFF’s Normalization Committee.
The source, who spoke on a condition of anonymity, told Stabroek Sport yesterday that the hushed sacking of the trio came in the aftermath of “logistical mishaps in encampment,” but also stemmed from the passport issues involving English quartet Matthew Briggs, Neil Danns, Sam Cox and Marcel Barrington. During the start of the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers, the four overseas-born players were unable to travel due to their inability to acquire citizenship.
They were subsequently granted citizenship but an investigation by FIFA looms.
Additionally a player over the stipulated age, was selected and travelled with the national U23 team to Antigua and Barbuda for the Olympic Qualifiers.
According to the source, Xavier, Khan and Parris were written to by the General Secretary, Richard Groden and the Chairman of the Normalisation Committee, Clinton Urling informing them of the decision to terminate their services.
Efforts to contact Urling proved futile but this publication was told that he is still overseas after witnessing the Women’s World Cup tournament which concluded four days ago in Vancouver, Canada.
Calls to Khan who has championed the cause of UK-based players representing Guyana, also went unanswered.
