A team headed by Minister of Communities Ronald Bulkan met with officials of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) on Wednesday to discuss and sort out details for the holding of local government elections.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Communities, the discussions centred on the capability of the respective agencies disposing of any outstanding issues related to the holding of the polls. These issues included the delineation of the boundaries of the local government organs, wherever current circumstances indicate the desirability for such adjustments, and updating any relevant legislation, as required. The release also said the Ministry expects and intends such engagements to be frequent while preparations for the polls continue.
During his address to the National Assembly on June 26th, Bulkan revealed government’s intention of holding the polls in November.
