At his arraignment last week, Schwartz had pleaded not guilty to a charge that on June 26th, at Coverden Public Road, East Bank Demerara, he drove HC 4030 in a dangerous manner, thereby causing the death of Marlon Forde. It was also alleged that on the same day he drove the vehicle while under the influence and that he failed to render assistance to the injured Forde.

While Schwartz was remanded to prison last week, when the matter was called again yesterday, Magistrate McLennan set bail at $1 million.

Forde, a construction worker of Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, was a passenger in another hire car that was involved in a head-on collision with the vehicle being driven by Schwartz along the Coverden Public Road. He was transported to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre after sustaining severe head injuries but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Schwartz is expected to make his next court appearance on July 14th before Magistrate Judy Latchman.
