Two days after he was injured in a collision, motorcyclist Ruel Grant succumbed in hospital.
Grant, 38, of Lot 6 Hadfield Street, was involved in a collision with a taxi on Aubrey Barker Road on June 27th.
He died at the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he had undergone surgery. Grant’s fiancée Stacy John told Stabroek News that she was notified of the accident via a phone call but had no idea how it occurred. She said she was told that the taxi which crashed into her boyfriend’s motorcycle was speeding at the time.
Stabroek News was told that a bystander was also injured after a part from the motorcycle pitched out after the collision and struck him.
John said Grant was transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital by a car after calls for an ambulance proved futile. He underwent surgery two days after he was hospitalised and died subsequently due to internal bleeding, John added.
The police are expected to file charges against the driver of the taxi who was involved in the accident, John said.
The woman recalled her boyfriend, who was employed with Banks DIH as a machine operator, as a very caring and pleasant person who never got into trouble with anyone.
Meanwhile, Janice Grant, mother of the dead man, said that she only left Guyana on June 26th to celebrate her 40th wedding anniversary in the United States.
At first, relatives were reluctant to disclose that her son was critical after he was involved in the accident. However, she was eventually greeted with the dreadful news after he succumbed.
Grant immediately began making arrangements for her return trip to Guyana to attend her son’s funeral, which was due to take place yesterday.
