A vendor was yesterday refused bail on a charge of possession of cocaine, which police say was found during a search of his home.
Although Marlon Thomas’ lawyer told Magistrate Ann McLennan that multiple persons reside at the Lot 185 Pike Street, Kitty residence and that the accused was not home when the alleged discovery was made, it was not enough to move her to grant bail.
Thomas, 39, pleaded not guilty to the charge of possession of narcotics for trafficking, which was read to him at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court 2.
It was alleged that on April 25th, at Georgetown, he had in his possession 18 grammes of cocaine.
Attorney George Thomas, during his application for reasonable bail, told the court that his client was not a flight risk and had no previous convictions or any pending matter. According to the attorney, when the search was conducted at the house, his client was not present and it was not until his return that he was informed that police searched and took away some items. Thomas added that the residence is occupied by a number of persons. Prosecutor Deniro Jones said the police, acting on information received, went to the defendant’s house and a search uncovered the illegal substance. He admitted that when the cocaine was found the accused was not at home but added that the police took possession of the drug and later arrested Thomas.
Bail was denied and the case was adjourned until July 20th, when it will be called before Magistrate Judy Latchman.
