The Guyana Baseball League (GBL) in partnership with Electronics City will slug off their softball Open today at the All Saints Primary School ground New Amsterdam, Berbice from 11:00hrs.
According to GBL President Robin Singh, the change in venue is due to inclement weather in Georgetown. He suggested that more conducive weather in the Ancient County is expected to permit a full day’s play.
The one-day tourney will feature three Berbice-based teams, Buddy’s Gym Outlaws, Berbice Bridge Company Strikers and the Nobel House Spartans who will take on the West Coast Demerara Smalta Tigers, Charlestown Branderz and the GT Bombers.
Competition is expected to be fierce as teams have been practicing weekly ahead of the competition’s launch. The next round which will be played in Georgetown, will see the Campbellville Zif Vendettas and the multi-national Sons of Pitches joining the competition.
Also, the GBL is putting plans in place for summer camps in August for both Berbice and Demerara which will provide excellent opportunities for parents and children interested in playing baseball/softball to come out and get acquainted with the sport, its players and officials.
