400-lot housing development planned for Bartica

The Ministry of Communities has announced plans to establish a new 400-lot housing development at Four Miles, Bartica, Region Seven starting from January 2016.

In a press release, the ministry said the Central Housing and Planning Authority will be pursuing arrangements to transfer 100 acres of land needed to develop the area. After the legal process, a number of activities are expected to follow; the execution of block surveys, preparation of design layouts and the design of infrastructure such as roads, drains, structures, water and electrical distribution networks. The ministry is planning to start infrastructural development in January 2016 with the works set to be advertised through national competitive bidding in December.

The establishment of the community comes at a time when Bartica is transitioning to become a township by April 23, 2016, in keeping an announcement made by President David Granger. Currently, the ministry is collaborating with Bartica authorities in this endeavour. Recently, minister Keith Scott visited the community to inspect ongoing projects and to discuss the plans with Regional Chairman Gordon Bradford, other regional officials and residents. Developments will be done in a sustainable manner in order to preserve the beauty of the Bartica landscape.

Work has already started to provide access to potable water in the region. The Guyana Water Incorporated is currently improving infrastructure to expand its coverage to accommodate the new housing scheme in keeping with its goal to provide residents with a 24-hour water supply.
