The Fernandes Bread Box Bakery (FBB) is set to formally open this Saturday at 92 Middle Street.
The Suriname-based bakery currently has twelve employees. FBB will have pastries, bread, ice-cream and chips on sale.
Rochelle Parsaram, FBB marketing manager, yesterday said the company plans to open a bakery chain. She said one more bakery is planned to be opened in Georgetown and another on the East Bank. Parsaram said the company’s main objective is to offer Guyanese a “healthier option of bread.” She said the venture started two years ago and FBB felt Guyanese needed to be healthy.
She said a lot of Guyanese would like to have whole wheat bread but they are usually supplied with a mixture of white and whole wheat bread.
FBB will have low sodium breads for persons who are looking to maintain a healthy lifestyle, Parsaram said, while adding that the company also has croissants, packaged roti, dhal puri and tortilla wraps. Parsaram said the packaged roti and dhal puri is an experiment that’s catching on.
She said FBB would bake fresh bread daily based on customer demands, while pointing out that the company also has ten different flavours of ice-cream, as well as fudge sticks and popsicles on sale.
Parsaram said FBB chose to open on Middle Street because of the high traffic congestion downtown. She said customers will find parking easier on Middle Street and said the business also caters for persons who work late. The company will be open until 9:00 pm, Parsaram said.
The Fernandes Bakery is part of the Fernandes Group of Companies. It was established in Paramaribo Suriname, in the year 1910. The company offers a range of products and services. It joins a number of other Surinamese companies which have been established here in recent years including insurance company Assuria and butchery Rossignol.
