Ganja farm destroyed in Mahaica backdam

During this morning, police ranks conducted a drug eradication operation in the Mahaica Backdam, ECD, during which two fields of cannabis sativa (marijuana) plants under cultivation, comprising about 200 plants ranging in height from 1 foot to 10 feet, along with a quantity of dried marijuana, were found and destroyed.

Gov’t shelves ‘flawed’ $10,000 school grant

Minister of Governance Raphael Trotman on Wednesday announced that government has indefinitely shelved the former administration’s $10,000 school grant initiative on the grounds that it is “fiscally unsustainable” and it is now actively considering a number of other initiatives in keeping with its priorities for education.

Nutrition Awareness Week to put focus on anaemia

The Food Policy Division of the Ministry of Public Health in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) will be seeking to raise awareness about anaemia, which has been found to affect almost 25% of Guyana’s children under five years and over 40% of its pregnant women.
