A man is now facing a charge that he committed a $17 million burglary after a gun allegedly found in his possession was linked to the stolen booty.
According to the charge against Nabadamingi Gobin, 38, between July 2 and July 4, 2015, at Relief, he broke and entered the dwelling house of James Samuels. It is alleged that he stole articles including several guns and varying rounds of live ammunition, a quantity of gold and diamonds, two metal safes, a flat screen television, several bottles of foreign liquor and US$40,000, amounting to a total of $17, 280,000.
Gobin, who is a driver of Aubrey Barker Road, pleaded not guilty to charge after it was read to him by Magistrate Ann McLennan.
The man’s lawyer, George Thomas, made an application for bail, while stating that police officers searched the man’s home but came up empty handed.
However, Prosecutor Deniro Jones pointed out that Gobin is currently before the court for the unlawful possession of a firearm. Jones added that the firearm in that charge matched one of the guns stolen from Samuels. The prosecutor further highlighted the gravity and prevalence of the crime committed as he continued his objections to bail.
Gobin was eventually remanded to jail and is expected to make his next court appearance on August 3.
