The PPP last evening denied any part in the killing of activist Courtney Crum-Ewing on March 10 this year and called on the police to release the findings of their investigation into this matter.
Freedom House’s statement came amid a public frenzy over allegations made by former policeman Shawn Hinds that he was part of a death squad that operated under the PPP/C government. Hinds apparently decided to go public with these allegations after it appeared that he was a person of interest in the Crum-Ewing murder probe. The police have since said that Hinds was not being sought in connection with the Crum-Ewing investigation.
In its statement, the PPP said that the media was rife with stories seeking to implicate it in the murder of Crum-Ewing.
“(The) Leader of the AFC and Ministers of the APNU/AFC Government have already discovered PPP/C involvement from the very evening of the execution of Crum-Ewing and publicly proclaimed the direction that the investigation must take in establishing the political connection, the political intellectual authors, the PPP of his murder.
“The PPP/C exposes this entire effort as a plot by the APNU/AFC Government. It is apposite to note that at no time did Shawn Hinds mention Ministerial involvement”, the PPP stated.
It charged that the plot involving Hinds incriminating PPP/C Ministers and Members must be exposed for what it is, designed by the Granger administration to tarnish the image of the PPP with accusations of murder and directing the investigations to prove PPP/C participation. “The PPP/C rejects any involvement in Crum-Ewing’s murder. The PPP/C rejects the vile attempts by the Government to link it with the killing.
“The PPP/C calls on the Guyana Police Force to disclose the results of their investigations into the murder. The PPP is confident that this disclosure will exonerate the PPP/C fully”, Freedom House added.
The police recently arrested two suspects after a lull in their investigation of the Crum-Ewing murder. It is unclear if any charges are imminent.
