SPANISH TOWN, Jamaica, CMC – Windward Islands won their second straight game of the Regional Under-19 Championship, crushing hosts Jamaica by 128 runs at Chedwin Park here yesterday.
The visitors rattled up 217 all out in the final over with Dornan Edward hammering a top score of 61, Emmanuel Stewart getting 36 and Kyle Cabey, 27.
Anil Matthew also got 27 and Gidron Pope, 22.
In reply, Jamaica were bundled out for a paltry 99 off 35.3 overs, with fast bowler Ryan John doing the damage with four for 16 and Pope picking up two for 12 with his off-spin.
Brad Barnes top-scored with 30 but was just one of three batsmen in double figures, with Shahid Crooks scoring 19 and Ramone Francis chipping in with 16.
Batting first, Windwards were given a handy start of 48 by Cabey and Hope but then lost seven wickets for 105 runs, to regress to 153 for seven.
However, Edward and Othneil Lewis (18) then lifted the lower order in a partnership of 63 for the eighth wicket.
Edward smashed seven fours and two sixes off 57 balls while Lewis provided valuable support, facing 28 balls and hitting one six.
Off-spinner and captain Michael Frew was the best bowler with four for 30 while Gareth Henry (2-38), Abhijai Mansingh (2-38) and Odean Smith (2-56) finished with two wickets apiece.
Jamaica then lost opener Jevoy Spence without a run on the board but recovered to reach 62 for three.
However, any hopes of carrying on for the victory were dashed as they suffered a dramatic collapse, losing their last seven wickets for 37 runs.
