Accused of snatching a $500 bill from a woman in a bus, Christopher Jedoo had his bail set at $25,000 after he declared his innocence in court yesterday.
Jedoo was accused of stealing $500 from Lena Persaud on July 23rd, 2015, at Herstelling, East Bank Demerara.
At his arraignment at the Providence Magistrate’s Court, the prosecution stated that while Jedoo and Persaud were traveling in a Route 42 bus along the East Bank Highway, he reached into the right pocket of Persaud’s pants and took the $500 note. Persaud raised an alarm and the bus stopped at a roadblock, where police officers were stationed.
Jedoo was subsequently arrested and charged.
The court also heard that while Jedoo was in custody he behaved badly and threatened the police officers at the Providence Police Station.
Jedoo told Magistrate Leron Daly that he had not taken Persaud’s money. He explained that Persaud noticed that he was intoxicated and decided to take advantage of him. Jedoo said that the money Persaud claimed that he took was his and he did not steal anything.
Jedoo was subsequently granted $25,000 bail by Magistrate Daly, who set August 17th for the next hearing.
