Police yesterday captured a suspect in a number of recent high-profile crimes, including the attack on a judge and her family, Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum confirmed. He said the arrest occurred during the afternoon hours as the man was in a minibus which was proceeding along the East Bank corridor.
Blanhum said the suspect was also found with a quantity of cannabis in his possession.
Police earlier this month confronted several suspects at a house at Craig, East Bank Demerara. During an exchange, suspected gang leader Rolston Morrison was killed while eight others were held. Afterward, police revealed that they suspected that the gang was involved in the violent home invasion attack on Justice Nicole Pierre, and the murders of businessman Ganesh Ramlall and Nandy Park resident Travis Rudder. Several persons have already been placed before the court to answer for the crimes.
Blanhum had previously told Stabroek News that the three matters are part of one big investigation.
Following the Craig arrests, police have said that they were looking for four other persons in connection with the crimes.
Blanhum declined to say whether the suspect arrested is one of those persons being sought.
On Monday Faizal Bacchus, and Lennox Roberts, were indicted for Ramlall’s murder, while Damion Millington, Nicholas Narine, and Anthony David were charged with robbing the land court judge and her husband Mohamed Chand during a home invasion and discharging a loaded firearm at a security guard during their getaway. Another man, Premnauth Samaroo, was also charged last week Monday with the robbery of the judge.
