The trial of the two police constables accused of assaulting detainee Colwyn Harding did not resume as planned yesterday after prosecutor Nigel Hughes was unable to attend and requested another adjournment.
Police Constables Devin Singh and Roselle Tilbury-Douglas are accused of assaulting Harding between November 1st and November 13th, 2013, at the Timehri Police Station. Singh also faces an additional assault charge.
Harding has alleged that Singh rammed a condom-covered baton up his anus and later physically assaulted him.
The trial was supposed to continue yesterday at the Providence Magistrate’s Court but it was adjourned once more after Hughes wrote to the court and asked for another date due to his inability to be present.
Only one of the accused, Tilbury-Douglas, and her attorney, Leslie Sobers, were present yesterday. Singh, his attorney Glenn Hanoman and Harding were all absent during the hearing.
Magistrate Leron Daly set August 17th for the next hearing.
