First time competing boxers eager to don their gloves and showcase their talent will have to wait a bit longer.
According to president of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), Steve Ninvalle, the two-day National Novices Championships initially scheduled for this weekend at the East Ruimveldt Community Centre will now be held on August 8-9 at the same venue.
Ninvalle told this publication yesterday that the postponement was due to the forecasted inclement weather.
“We were forced to push it back to August 8 and 9 because of the fact of the forecast is not too favorable for the next couple of days.”
Ninvalle noted that event would have been held outdoors under floodlights and would have exposed to ring, the boxers and the patrons to the elements. “So we thought it wise to postpone it until August 8th and 9th.”
The GBA head then reasoned that the postponement “will give the guys a little more time to train” and that he expects to have an “eventful competition.”
“From that we will go into the Under-16 Championships and then the National Intermediate,” Ninvalle concluded.
