Cops still seeking triggermen in mall owner murder

Though the two suspected planners of the armed robbery which left mall owner Ganesh Ramlall dead have been charged and placed before the court, the police are adamant that they are still actively searching for the trigger men.

Questions have been raised as to why Faizal Bacchus, and Lennox Roberts were charged with murdering the man when according to the evidence gathered they had transported the gunmen to the businessman’s home to carry out a robbery, which they had earlier planned.

Contacted yesterday Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum give every assurance that the case is still open and that investigations are ongoing. “We have information on the other suspects and the police are actively pursuing that,” he told Stabroek News.

Bacchus and Roberts were arrested shortly after police earlier this month conducted an armed operation at Craig, East Bank Demerara which left one man, said to be s suspected gang leader dead and two including a policeman injured.

The apartment where the Rolston Morrison was killed was suspected to be the lair of the criminal gang and it is believed that it was members of this gang that carried out the attack on Ramlall.

A gun recovered in the apartment was said to have been used in the Ramlall killing.

Bacchus, 21, a taxi driver of Lot 7 Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara and Roberts, of 2279 Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo, were charged on July 20 with murdering Ramlall in the course of the furtherance of a robbery. The charge stated that the duo committed the crime on July 5, at La Jalousie, West Coast Demerara, where Ramlall was gunned down.

Ramlall, owner of the Regent Multiplex Mall, located at the corner of Regent and Wellington streets, had just returned home around 12.20 am and was coming from a washroom near to his house when he was shot at six times, including once to his head.

Reports are that the four gunmen who confronted him later escaped with his jewellery and a wallet.
