Team Gillette Evolution (TGE) defied the odds to finish first and second in yesterday’s feature 35-lap event of the inaugural Nauth’s Motor Spares 11-race cycle programme.
The club’s youngest member, Michael Anthony, rode off with the top honors while the team’s veteran rider, Stephen Fernandes placed second in the criterium fixture which was staged at the National Park’s circuit.
Team Alanis’ Alonzo Ambrose joined Anthony and Fernandes on the podium, while Akeem Wilkinson (TGE), Paul DeNobrega (Team Alanis) and Orville Hinds (TE) filled out the top six paid positions to complete a TGE, Team Alanis sweep of the spoils.
Besides the winner’s trophy, Anthony who turns 19 next month, also pocketed five of the eight sprint prizes on his way to winning the event in a respectable one hour, 18 minutes and six seconds in perfect conditions for racing.
Other winners yesterday included: Adelia Hodge (BMX Boys 12-14 years), Toshwanna Doris (BMX Boys and Girls 12-14 years), Yannick John (BMX Boys 9-12 years), Alex Leung (BMX Boys 6-9 years), Seon Budhan (Mountain Bike), Jamal John (Juveniles), Junior Niles (Veteran U-50 years) and Linden Blackman (Veteran O-50 years).
At the completion of the event, its organizer, Hassan Mohamed congratulated the cyclists for making the day a success and also thanked the sponsor for being onboard.
Managing Director of the Nauth’s Motor Spares, Surendra Nauth also made brief remarks and assisted with the presentation of the prizes.
The cycling season continues this morning with a 60-mile road race in Berbice.
