Dear Editor,
I’m very concerned about loud music in mini-buses especially on Route 44, regardless as to whether it is to or from BV, Victoria, Mahaica or Rosignol. I always go on the public road to get transportation to get to work in Georgetown from the East Coast of Demerara, and unfortunately I always catch the one playing loud music. This has become a nuisance to me as well as a few other passengers in the said minibus, so I decided to bring it to the attention of the Traffic Department of the Guyana Police Force.
What actually I observed happening in these minibuses is that the conductor has a remote control to change the music and the drivers have a control button attached to the side of the handbrake which controls the bass of the music which is played very loud.
And what disappoints me is that whenever they pass a police station they turn down the volume. In addition, one time they picked up a police officer in plain clothes from the Sparendaam police station and I overheard the driver telling the conductor that he is safe. Then the conductor and driver turned up the music loud with the policeman in the bus.
I have the number of the minibus [provided], and I am pleading with the Traffic Department to make a thorough check in minibuses because it seems as though the playing of loud music is getting out of hand.
Yours faithfully,
