Annai Secondary stormed their way into the semi-final round, mauling Dolphin Secondary 13-0 in their quarterfinal fixture when the 5th annual Digicel Secondary Schools Football Championship continued yesterday.
It was combination of collective brilliance coupled with horrendous defending at the Leonora Sports Facility that inspired the Region #9 champs to the crushing win.
Garville Daniels led the way with a goal rush of six strikes in the fifth, 10th, 26th, 32nd, 59th and 67th minutes while sibling Sherral Daniels was equally devastating with six conversions in the third, 15th, 53rd, 61st, 83rd and 90th minutes.
Netting a solitary effort in the eighth minute was Stewart Edwards. With the win, Annai Secondary will now oppose Chase Academy, after the latter defeated Charity Secondary in their quarterfinal fixture 8-1.
Securing their place in the match after Sir Leon Lessons was disqualified for an ineligible player following a 9-0 loss, the match started badly for the Georgetown unit as Sherral Daniels scored two minutes into the match with a left footed dagger into the lower left corner, after collecting left sided pass within the centre of the box.
It quickly became 2-0 three minutes later as Garville Daniels scored compliments of a placed strike into the centre of the goal from the top of the box.
Edwards further increased their advantage with a finish into the centre of the net, after skipping past two markers down the centre of the goal following a solo run.
The score would balloon once more as Garville Daniels netted his second of the match, volleying into the lower right hand corner after collecting a cross from the left side of the field.
Sherral Daniels however would not be outdone, sealing his double as he stabbed home into the lower left corner, after an initial right sided strike evaded the backline and fell into his onrushing path within the box.
The gamesmanship between the two forwards continued as Garville Daniels completed his hat-trick, deflecting an initial 22 yard strike from outside the box, into the centre of the net, wrong-footing the keeper in the process.
The lopsided nature of the fixture quickly continued as Garville Daniels sealed his helmet trick, skipping past two markers from the left side of the field, before finishing into the top left hand corner of the net from within the area.
With the matchup already decided going into the second stanza, Sherral Daniels found the back of the net a further four times while Garville Daniels etched his name on the scorer’s sheet two more times to complete the rout.
Meanwhile at the Wisburg ground in Linden, three time defending national champs Christianburg/Wismar Secondary downed East Coast of Demerara holders Annandale Secondary by a 6-0 score line to seal their berth in the final four.
Due to their win, the defending champs will renew their storied rivalry with three time losing national finalists Waramadong Secondary following the latter’s crushing win over Berbice High School by a 6-1 score at the Burnham Park ground in their quarterfinal affair.
