An all-round performance by Trinidad & Tobago took the Twin Island Republic to a nine-wicket defeat of Jamaica in round three of the ongoing West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Regional Under-15 limited overs tournament at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence yesterday.
Led by a seven-wicket haul between medium-pacer Jayden Seales who captured 4-44 from nine overs and spinner Sameer Ali who was destructive at the back end of the innings, ending with 3-9 from 6.1 overs, Jamaica were restricted to 125 all out in 40.1 overs.
Fast-bowler Michael Thompson top-scored with 26 from 37 balls with two fours and the only six of the innings, finding support from Georade Seymour who dug in for his 80-ball 24 with one four.
In reply, Trinidad & Tobago cruised to 126-1 in 34.3 overs, thanks to an unbroken second-wicket partnership of 109 between opener Sachin Dookie (45*) and Joshua James (29*).
T&T openers Dookie and Matthew Patrick (16) started the chase in positive fashion and did not allow Thompson to settle as the fast-bowler leaked 19 runs in his first over, the first of the innings.
The two youngsters carried their bats into the lunch interval with the score at 38.
The third over after lunch saw Patrick throwing his wicket away, caught at cover, the ball after he picked up a boundary at fine-leg.
Some urgency between Dookie and James, who sought to end the game in a hurry, eventually took Trinidad across the line with runs and wickets to spare. Dookie struck five fours and James two.
Earlier, the Jamaica innings never got going after Seales landed a triple blow removing the top order of Captain Kirk McKenzie (19), Okachie Brown (07) and Roberto Simpson (00).
Seymour offered some resistance but a cluster of wickets; Zavier Burton (00), Kevon Anniford (03), Adam Minott (04), Romaine Jacobs (12) and Andre Blake (00) saw the Jamaicans being reduced to 87 for 9 in 30.4 overs. Thompson and Comerie forged a defiant 10th wicket partnership of 38 taking their team well past the 100-run mark. The partnership was broken when Ali had Thompson caught in the deep attempting another big shot as the innings came to an end roughly one hour before lunch.
Over at the Everest Cricket Ground, defending champions Guyana had their match against Barbados abandoned without a ball bowled. Overnight and early morning showers left the ground and most parts of the boundary region waterlogged. Guyana who earned 6.6 points following their win over the Leewards on Saturday will play Jamaica at the Albion Community Development Centre Ground today in the fourth round.
Other scheduled matches for today are the Leeward Islands versus Trinidad and the Windward Islands versus Barbados.
