JAMALCO, Jamaica, CMC- Half centuries from Cephas Cooper and Amir Jangoo and an impressive all-round effort from Anderson Phillip set the stage for Trinidad and Tobago to register a commanding 138 run win over Canada in the fourth round of the WICB Under 19 tournament here Monday.
Cooper hit a top score of 67; Jangoo smashed 64 as Trinidad and Tobago piled up 283 for the loss of nine wickets from 45 overs AT Jamalco.
Phillip helped to boost the T&T total with an attractive late innings cameo of 44 not out and returned to lead the destruction of the Canadian innings with a three wicket haul that saw them all out for 145 runs from 43.3 overs.
Jangoo and fellow opener Bryan Boodram, who contributed 31, gave the young Trinidadians a solid start by putting on 65 runs for the first wicket, the first of three half century stands in the innings.
The Canadians lost wickets regularly, stumbled to 85 for eight at one stage, and were outplayed as the Trinidad cricketers subdued their efforts to chase down the target with brilliant work in the field.
Phillip finished with three for 29, Clevon Kalawan two for 32 while three Canadian batsmen were dismissed by way of the run out route including opener Sarbjot Singh.
Abraash Khan posted Canada’s top score with 24 but he was also run out by the Trinidad wicketkeeper Jangoo.
