The Guyana Elections Commis-sion (GECOM) conducted a two-day training session for its field staff from seven of the country’s districts on the proper and correct conduct of Claims and Objections to the voters list.
According to a GECOM press release, the training session which took place during the last weekend had as its main objective the equipping of all participants with the requisite knowledge, skills and attitudes to conduct the Claims and Objections exercise.
Participants were from GECOM’s registration offices in Districts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 10. Specifically, the field staff were taught about the correct usage of the forms and records required during the Claims and Objection exercise.
Additionally, the staff were refreshed on fingerprinting and photography so as to capture photographs of good quality and legible finger prints both of which are also requirements during the Claims and Objections exercise.
Further, GECOM said it “will continue a rigorous training schedule over the coming weeks, as it aims to properly prepare a well-trained and professional cadre of staff to competently conduct the Claims and Objections exercise.”
GECOM is preparing for local government elections.
