STOCKHOLM, Sweden, CMC – Jamaican star Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce dipped below 11 seconds again as she captured the 100 metres while rising Trinidadian star Machel Cedenio won the 400 metres, at the Stockholm Diamond League meet here yesterday.
The 28-year-old Fraser-Pryce clocked 10.93 to follow up her sub-11 clocking in Paris recently and continue her preparation for next month’s World Championship in Beijing where she is the defending champion in both sprints.
She easily beat American Tori Bowie who was timed at 11.05 seconds while Jamaican Natasha Morrison trailed in third in 11.22.
“I’m satisfied with the race. The time was not what I wanted but I’m grateful I came out here and did my best. Thank God,” Fraser-Pryce said afterward.
However, a day after telling media she would once again consider defending the 200m at the World Championships after ruling it out earlier this month, Fraser-Pryce said she definitely now wanted to focus only on the 100m.
“In Beijing, I’m not running the 200m. I’m telling my coach he has to change my mind,” she said.
“The 200m is too far and I’m set up for the 100m. Next I will go to Venice to prepare for Beijing.”
Cedenio, meanwhile, was timed at 44.97 as he beat Olympic silver medallist Luguelín Santos of the Dominican Republic into second.
Santos clocked 45.21 while Great Britain’s Martyn Rooney was third in a time of 45.41.
“The race felt good. It was a little bit slow but I’m so happy with the win and I think God for it,” Cedenio said.
Cuban Orlando Ortega won the men’s sprint hurdles in 13.18 seconds, beating World Champion David Oliver of the US into third spot.
