Desmond McPherson, the Meadowbrook resident who was shot twice to his chest on Thursday at Tucville, is still battling for his life at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
McPherson, 23, of Lot 1 Meadowbrook, was pulled from a drain at Tucville by a public-spirited citizen, who took him to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH). Up to late yesterday afternoon, McPherson was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the GPH, where he is now hooked up to a life-support machine.
McPherson’s family believes that his assailant is another man with whom he had a previous dispute. Police recovered a .38 revolver and three matching rounds near the crime scene.
The shooting occurred just before 10:15PM.
McPherson’s distraught sister, Deslyn, said that her brother left home on his bicycle on Thursday to meet friends in Tucville. After doing so, he left to meet another friend some distance away. However, as he set out a man dressed in a black hood emerged from the surrounding bushes and started to shoot at him.
Deslyn said that she was told that although her brother tried to dodge the shots, two hit him to the chest. Despite being shot, he began to run along the roadway before he collapsed and fell into a nearby trench.
After the suspect fled, villagers, who were aware that McPherson was shot, began to search for him but could not locate him. However, he was eventually found by a man who heard someone shouting for help from a trench. He was picked up and rushed to the GPH, where he had to undergo an emergency surgery during. One of the warheads was removed from his body, while the other is still lodged.
According to Deslyn, she learnt of the shooting after the person who took her brother to the hospital visited her home and informed her family of what had happened. The woman said she along with other relatives immediately rushed to the hospital, where they found McPherson bleeding profusely.
The woman noted that her brother had received a death threat a couple weeks ago from a man with whom he had a previous issue. She said the man may be the person behind the trigger of the gun since McPherson had no other conflicts that could have led to such an attack.
