Former national rider, Robin Persaud has won the Reagan Rodrigues Memorial 50-mile road race on three consecutive occasions.
Tomorrow on the road ways of West Demerara, the 40 year-old will look to continue playing the starring role of the one man show which starts at 08:00hrs.
Last year, Persaud took the top honors for the event which rolls off at Wales, proceeds to Bushy Park and finishes at Schoonord in a brisk one hour, 56 minutes and 50 seconds. He will be looking to better that when he saddles up for the Hassan Mohamed organized fixture in a few hours.
However, with the likes of Geron Williams, and the Team Gillette Evolution quintet ( Orville Hinds, Michael Anthony, Raul Leal, Marlon Williams and Akeem Wilkinson) in sublime form, the evergreen wheelsman will be hard pressed to continue his winning streak.
Riders from Team Coco’s, Team Alanis and the United Bikers Club will also be aiming for the top podium spots in the 11th edition of the race.
The first six overall finishers and the top three in the junior, veteran, mountain bike and female divisions will be rewarded handsomely. There will also be a special prize for the top over-60 rider. Eight sprint prizes will also be up for grabs.
Members of the late Rodrigues’ family, along with staff members of Ricks and Sari Agro Industries will be on hand to witness the race and to assist in the presentation of prizes.
Note: The race is held in memory of Rodrigues, the founder of the Carlton Wheelers club and former president of the Guyana Cycling Federation.
