Guyana’s top 400m athlete Winston George, fresh from reaching the 400m final at the recent Pan Am games in Edmonton, Canada, stormed to victory
Friday in the men’s 100m Invitational race winning in 10.01s as the curtain came down on the Guyana Police Force’s Inter-Division track and field championships at the National Synthetic Track, Leonora.
As expected, Headquarters, with 487 points, ran away with the Guyana Police Force Inter-Division Track and Field championships Friday at the National Synthetic Track at Leonora.
It was the 18th consecutive championships triumph for Headquarters.
Headquarters have won the annual competition since 1997.
In second place was `A’ Division on 345 points while `C’ Division was third with 276 points and B Division fourth on 148 points.
In the A Class competition Guyana were the winners with 402 points while Trinidad and Tobago placed second on 102 points and St. Vincent and Grenadines finished third with 41 points.
But the day belonged to George, who following his training stint in the United States of America returned to beat Akeem Stewart, 10.2 seconds into second place with Tyrell Peters, 10.9s, third.
He then returned to win the 200m in 21.0 seconds with Trinidad’s Che Hart, 21.7s and Keith Roberts, 22.5s second and third respectively.
Peters was the winner of the male 100m Youth Club Male 100m in 10.7 seconds while Emmanuel Sancho and Ronald Gobin, who posted 11.1 and 11.3 seconds were second and third respectively.
Joshua Hamilton, 10.4 seconds, won the ‘A’ Class 100m from Hart (10.8s) and Roberts (11.1) respectively while Tevin Garraway won the male ‘B’ Class 100m for Headquarters in 10.5 seconds.
Linton Mentis, 10.7s was second and Owen Adonis, 10.8 seconds, third.
Trevor Benn, of ‘C’ Division won the Senior Officers 100m event in 10.8s with Dennis Thomas second in 11.4s and Derwin Eastman, 11.8s, third.
Deja Smartt of ‘C’ Division, won the 100m female event in 11.7s from Headquarters’ Leota Babb 12.6s and Onika Eastman 13.3s.
Babb was the winner of the Senior Officers 100m race for females clocking 12.8s. Akeela Alves, 13.0s and Nadine Rodrigues, 13.3s, were second and third respectively.
Kezia Bess defeated Jevina Sampson in the 100m Youth Club Girls event clocking 12.3s to Sampson’s 12.5s. Joanna Archer, 13.5s, was third.
Tiffany Carto won the 400m female in 1:04.4 from Cindy Fraser (1:09.0) and Keiandra Gordon (1:14.3) respectively while Arinze Chance clocked an impressive 48.1s in the 400m ‘B’ Class event besting Kareem Punch, 48.6s, second and Winston Dummett, 49.9s, third.
Boyer 5:34:05 was the winner of the ‘A’ Class 1500m female event with Dellie Williams, 5:56.02s, second and Melissa Byass 6:10.06s, third. Archer won the Youth Club 1500m event in 5:24 from Tabitha Bowman (5:34.6) and Bess (6:54.4).
Rondel Austin was the winner of the Male Youth Club 1500m race clocking 4:32.04s to defeat Delon Bagot 4:50s and Moses Best 4:52.06s while Bayley was the winner of the 1500m males clocking 5:36:07s to defeat Grivon Grant (5:40:02 and Jayon Johnson (5:46:07.
Julio Sinclair and Keith Roberts were adjudged joint ‘A’ Class male Champion athlete with 26 points each while Kevin Bayley was the runner-up with 20 points.
Nikita Thomas of Trinidad and Tobago was declared the champion overseas female athlete with Sheldon Mason copping the male award.
Emmanuel Sancho won the champion male Youth Club award with Joanna Archer copping the female title while Shion Boyer, Tiffany Carto and Tandika Burgess shared the champion female award.
Yoel Benjamin was adjudged the male ‘B’ class champion athlete and Clarence Greene the runner-up.
