Guyana’s Calvin Thomas Friday captured the gold medal in the 5000m event at the Special Olympics World Games competition in the United States of America.
It was the first gold medal of the championships by the four-member Guyana team whose medal haul now reads one gold, two silver and one bronze medals.
Guyana’s Aneisa Bowman won silver the 400m event; Deandra David won bronze in the 400m division four event while Kevin Pryce placed fourth in the 400m and won a silver medal in the 200m division eight event.
The athletes are competing at the Locker Stadium/Cromwell Field, University of South California.
Yesterday the Guyana team was scheduled to compete in the mixed 4x400m relay event.
