NEW YORK, CMC – Legendary West Indies batsman Sir Garfield Sobers is among a group of former West Indies cricketers in New York to participate in cricket matches this weekend.
Some of the legends who are joining Sir Gary to play two Twenty20 cricket matches include former openers Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes, Carl Hooper, Courtney Walsh, Richie Richardson, Gus Logie, Deryck Murray, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Daren Ganga.
The cricket legends, who attended a reception on Friday, played their first match against a New York All-Star XI yesterday at Idlewild Park in Queens. Both sides will square off at the same venue today.
Greenidge has teamed up with promoter Pooran Ramnanan to bring the legends to New York.
Ramnanan said that the legends are expected to participate in a coaching exercise with young players from New York Public Schools Athletic League.
