A man was on Friday remanded to prison after a city court heard that he allegedly armed himself with a gun and a cutlass and robbed another man of his phone.
Jermaine Wilson, 36, of Lot 50 Front Road, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was charged with robbing Dwight Davis of a Samsung cellphone, worth $40,000, on June 12th, while being armed with a cutlass and a gun.
Prosecutor Deniro Jones stated that the cell phone was not recovered and objected to bail due to the nature of the charge.
Wilson’s attorney said his client has an ongoing matter in the court and noted that Davis is related to the complainant. He went on to suggest that the current charge was brought to incriminate Wilson.
The attorney, who insisted that no weapons were found on his client, pleaded for reasonable bail. He said his client is a father of four, who is in a common-law relationship and who operates a car wash in the West Ruimveldt area.
Despite the lawyer’s submissions, Wilson was remanded to prison until August 17th, when the case is due to be called again.
