Custody extended for suspect in Philadelphia murder

The Police on Monday applied for and were later granted a three-day extension to keep an ex-policeman in custody for questioning into the death of Philadelphia, East Bank Essequibo resident, Davonan Sookram, according to Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum.

Blanhum confirmed that the man died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Sookram’s decomposing body was found around 12 noon last Friday along the access road at Ruby, East Bank Essequibo.

The gruesome discovery was made by fishermen passing through the area.

Police sources have revealed that the police are currently working on a particular line of inquiry.

According to a police press release, the 37-year-old man was reported missing from his home since July 27 and was said to be in the company of the ex-policeman.
