A fisherman was yesterday sentenced to nine months in prison after he admitted to stealing items from the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) Sports Complex.
City Magistrate Ann McLennan was told that Brian Browne, 27, confessed to the crime after police stopped him on a bicycle with a bag filled with the stolen items.
The items were valued at $42,000 in total.
Prosecutor Deniro Jones told the court that on August 1st, officers were patrolling when they saw Browne riding a bicycle with a bulky bag while acting in a suspicious manner on Vlissengen Road. He stated that the police approached Browne and discovered the items in his bag.
Jones indicated that Browne was questioned and admitted to breaking into the NIS Sports Complex.
The prosecutor also stated that further investigations were carried out and the items were positively identified, leading to Browne being charged.
