Guyana’s national u-21 unit defeated Trinidad and Tobago’s national u-21 outfit in an international friendly 2-1 via the penalty shoot-out route on Monday in the Twin Island Republic.
Competing in the matchup due to a rest day from their Player’s Tournament campaign, Guyana overcame their Caribbean rivals in the shoot-out through goals from Aroydy Branford and Kareem McKenzie after normal time ended 2-2.
Prior to the shoot-out, the home side took a 2-0 lead before the Guyanese forced the fixture into its eventual end following a late double from Branford. The fixture was set up to test both side’s preparation ahead of their 2016 Pan American Junior Championships campaign in Toronto, Canada.
The team will now shift their attention back to the Player’s Tournament where they are slated to face off with Malvern and Queens Park today and tomorrow respectively.
The resulting semi-finals and final of the event is slated for Friday and Saturday correspondingly. Up to press time, Guyana was in action against a U-21 Training Squad.
