Burglar jailed for two years

A confessed accomplice in a burglary was on Tuesday jailed for two years after admitting his role in the crime.

Adrian English, 20, accepted the charge laid against him, which stated that between July 8th and July 9th, he broke and entered the house of Onel Maxwell and stole a quantity of household articles.

Among the items stolen were a flat screen television, two gas bottles, two microwaves, a modem as well as several bottles of perfume, skin cream, shampoo and hair conditioner. In total, $370,000 worth of items were stolen.

Magistrate Ann McLennan, who imposed the sentence, was told that Maxwell had secured his William Street house on the night of July 8th before heading to Georgetown to conduct business. However, when he returned to the house the next day he noticed the front door of the lower flat had been broken. After an investigation, he discovered the articles mentioned in the charge were missing and he made a report to the police.

The prosecution noted that fingerprints that were uplifted from the crime scene were analysed and led police to English, who was brought in for questioning and subsequently arrested and charged.

It was also stated that after being cautioned by the police, the man admitted to breaking into the house with the aide of an accomplice, whom he identified as ‘Fowl.’ Some of the stolen articles were discovered at English’s residence.

When given his opportunity to speak, English told the court that he was at home when he got a call from ‘Fowl,’ who asked him to come down to the location. He noted that when he arrived there the house had already been broken into.

Additionally, he stated that he took everything except the television and microwaves and kept them at the house where Fowl was supposed to pick them up the following morning.

It was revealed that English had recently completed a three-year jail sentence for an offence of a similar nature. Before he was escorted out of the courtroom, Magistrate McLennan offered a brief lecture, noting that he should’ve known better as he has been through the system already.
