A young Corentyne butcher was on Monday charged with the murder of farmer Henry Lallman, who was found in a shallow grave last Thursday.
Asif Hamid, 21, of Corriverton, Berbice, was not required to plead to the charge after it was read to him by the Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh.
Hamid is accused of killing Lallman, 76, of Number 55 Village, Corentyne sometime last week Monday.
Lallman had disappeared on the day and police were able to stumble upon the man’s partially decomposed body after they were informed that he went to Hamid’s home and never returned.
The man’s body was discovered in a shallow grave dug under a mango tree in Hamid’s yard.
A post-mortem examination performed by Dr. Vivekanand Brijmohan gave the cause of death as strangulation.
Lallman had gone to the butcher’s home to collect money owed to him from the sale of cattle to the butcher. However, there was a misunderstanding and the suspect told investigators that he strangled the pensioner.
The unrepresented accused is required to return to court on August 25th, 2015, for the next hearing in the case.
