A 28-year-old man, who admitted that he was guilty of having one and a half grammes of cannabis in his possession, was ordered to do one hundred hours of community service at the Wismar Police Station to be completed by the 30th September 2015.
Magistrate Clive Nurse in handing down the sentence to Kevin Headley in the Linden Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, cautioned Headley that if he fails to complete the community service on time, he would have to serve three months in prison.
The court heard that 28-year-old Headley of 194 Half Mile, Wismar, was accosted at the Mackenzie Police Station with a carton on 3rd August 2015 and when the Police searched the carton, they found a box of cook up rice with a plastic bag of green leaves appearing to be cannabis concealed in the meal.
Prosecuting office, Police Sergeant Pindar told the court that Headley was cautioned and arrested and it was determined that the concealed substance amounted to one and a half grammes of cannabis.
When asked by the Magistrate if he agreed with Pindar’s statement, Headley assented and took the guilty plea. The mason/carpenter told the magistrate that it was the first time that he had been charged with a criminal offence. Magistrate Nurse then sentenced Headley to 100 hours of community service at the Wismar Police Station to be completed by 30 September 2015 and if he fails to complete the service by the stated time, he would have to serve three months in prison.
