According to Frank Yorrick, father of the dead man, he was at a wake house last evening when he received a called informing him that Akeem was shot. The man said he immediately informed other relatives who were present at the wake house and they rushed to the hospital where they learnt that he had died.

Chaos broke out at the hospital last night as family members and friends of the deceased entered in large number as they received the tragic news, some wailing loudly. One of Akeem’s brothers, was weeping uncontrollably while he rolled on the grounds of the hospital.

His mother, who was in and out of consciousness was heard saying, “not my baby, this can’t be true, ow my Akeem you gone and I just talk to you.”

The woman who operates a shop in the Plaisance area said that she had just closed business for the day and left Akeem minutes before sitting outside with a friend and upon her arrival she heard he was shot. “My sons them don’t get in no trouble, as big as they be they never get in any police story” were some of the words the grieving mother was heard wailing.

Other relatives and friends of the dead man were heard expressing their anger at the response of the police. According to one man, they called the police patrol from Sparendaam and they did not turn up. “If the police did respond to our call all this could have been avoided”, the angry man said.
