Master batsman Rickey `Bimbly’ Deonarain has been named skipper of a star-studded Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) team to play against the visiting Paradise Sports and Cultural Organisation from Chaguanas, Trinidad.
The two sides will meet tomorrow evening at the Demerara Cricket Club ground in a feature Twenty20 cricket match.
The match will get underway at 6.30pm under lights.
The Floodlights team are the current Guyana Softball Cup 4 and 2015 New York Independence Cup champions but though renowned for their skill at softball will put on pads, batting gloves and helmets as they throw down the gauntlet to the Trinidadians in the hardball version of the game.
According to a press release, Paradise Sports first visited Guyana in 1972 and were hosted by the then famous Ogle Cricket Club.
They followed up that inaugural visit with several other tours up to the mid-eighties where they played various clubs on the East Coast.
Some members from that 1972 trip will be in attendance at DCC tomorrow.
