Three persons have been detained in connection with the shooting death of Plaisance mason Akeem Yorrick, Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum said yesterday.
Stabroek News has since been informed that Yorrick was not a passerby as was reported by this newspaper but rather he was standing in the yard of a house which had been surrounded by a few others who had allegedly been robbed by a man on Sunday.
Police said in a press release yesterday that at about 2150 hours last night a group of residents confronted a man, whom they accused of being involved in an armed robbery, at his home at Sparendaam Squatting Area, East Coast Demerara.
“During the ensuing altercation the man discharged a round into the group of residents fatally wounding Akeem Yorrick, 23 years, of Prince William Street, Plaisance, ECD, and escaped”, the release said.
Yorrick was shot once to his abdomen around 9:15 pm and died while receiving treatment at the Georgetown Hospital.
